A COMPANY that runs lap dancing clubs as well as care homes, is to site a 50-bed
residential home on Sprotbrough Road.
The first application by the Ladhar Group, in January this year, was refused by planners, but a revi
sed scheme was given the go-ahead on October 7.

Three derelict homes have previously occupied the site, opposite the Goldsmith Centre, where groups of underage drinkers used to meet on a regular basis.

However, there was some opposition to the proposals, as residents were unsure what might be "bulldozed through", once planning consent was granted.

A petition of 68 names, plus 16 letters of objection did not deter planners, who said the impact on neighbouring properties "would not be of a significant enough level to warrant a refusal".

The first care home application was refused for reasons of large footprint and scale, and a lack of parking provision, which planners feel has now been overcome, after an increase of three car spaces.

However, some residents still fear a lack of adequate parking will lead to more street parking, and so spark dangerous situations on both Allendale Road, where the access point will be, and Sprotbrough Road.

The approved application includes 16 parking spaces, four of which are at the roadside.

Service and delivery to the building were also matters of concern to those who wrote to protest.

The Consett-based Ladhar Group began developing a care homes portfolio this year, after running a string of clubs under the For Your Eyes Only banner.

They currently have a 57-bed elderly mentally infirm (EMI) residential home in the centre of Rossington.
